In Winter local life in Greece becomes something quite special! The picturesque mountain villages are covered in blankets of snow. Many of the peaks are dressed in white from November to April. Winter is the time for a warm rakomelo by the fireplace in traditional taverns. And it is best to experience an alternative view of Greece – one of glorious mountains and natural landscapes, and as yet undiscovered by the mass tourism.
Nature-lovers will find a great range of hiking trails, experienced mountaineers can challenge themselves by tackling the alpine territory of snowy peaks. The country is home to a lot of small sized ski and snowboard centers. And for the more adventurous: Greece is a paradise for activities like backcountry skiing as well for iceclimbing. Or just enjoy the peaceful Greek countryside and local cuisine and get away from it all.
